1. DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITIES

During your service, it is important to discover the opportunities that lies in the environment that you are serving either in the entire state or just a local government. This is tricky as people who are posted to remote parts of Nigeria usually don't think there are opportunities in such environment without knowing the less developed a place is, the more untapped its resources are. Always look within and communicate with the resident and find out how you can do better what they are already doing.

2. MAKE CERTAIN PREPARATIONS

This is the time to make certain preparations and plans about your life and then invest your time and resources into making those plans a reality. For example, this is where you decide if you want to be an office worker or an entreprenure, and then investing your time into either learning a particular trade, some online skills like programming, web designing etc or even learn how to do great in interviews.

3. PICK UP A TRADE

This is resulting from your decision after you've made your preparation and plans. Invest your time in learning a trade you will like to emback on after your NYSC which you think might be productive in your own state. It could be transporting goods from rural areas to urban areas for sale, or it could be palm oil business. What ever it is, just use the opportunity to learn as much as you can while you can.

4. LEARN A SKILL

Again, this is resulting from your decision after you have made your preparations and plans on what you want to do. If you decide that you don't want to be an entreprenure but rather you want a white collar job, then you have to learn skills that will gurantee you your desire type of job. Skills to learn includes technical skills like how to make use of Microsoft Office excel, Microsoft office power point etc.

5. READ BOOKS

These days people no longer love to read as before rather they prefer podcasts and youtube videos for information they need. The value of books can not be over emphasized as they help build your mindset and get you ready for the realities of life. Most of these important books are now very much available unlike before in the form of Ebooks. However, if you do not like books, endeavour to attend lots of seminars and conferences on selected topics.

Most fresh graduates of today are very young and usually grade oriented in college. Consequently they didn't have the opportunity to own or manage businesses, hence they do not have the work expiriences mostly required by business employees. That's why you have to take you NYSC very seriously as it is meant to prepare you for the next stage of life.
